BUILDING MOMENTUM

Nucleus brings life science research into a rapidly-growing and thriving new marketplace for medical innovations of the 21st century.
Today, we are on the threshold of realizing our business plan. We’re ready to spread our wings and do bigger and grander things by building on the assets of the University of Louisville Foundation and our academic, medical and science community.
There have been two essential keys to creating Nucleus. The first is the tax increment financing (TIF). In November 2007, tax-increment financing was awarded by the state to build out the Nucleus life science research park.
TIF supports construction of research labs and other buildings; hiring of new faculty, and researchers and support staff at UofL; growth of new businesses to generate economic activity across Kentucky; and infrastructure for researchers and entrepreneurs to take health science technology to the marketplace.
The second key is our wonderful partnerships. Nucleus is the culmination of dedicated commitment across state and local government, economic development agencies and leading medical institutions like Jewish Hospital and St. Mary’s and the University of Louisville Foundation.
All told, Nucleus will change the face of the community and create over 8,700 high-paying jobs that will last well into the century. This is a very exciting time. We are proud of the role we have in shaping the future.
Sincerely,

MEETING THE CHALLENGE

Nucleus is an exciting endeavor that has potential for results. It has brought together a unique combination of business, government, academic and research sectors with one goal in mind: to establish our community as a major life science research center.
Nucleus embodies the public agenda we were given at the University of Louisville to increase economic opportunity and the quality of life for the people of our community and state.
Nucleus has the land, funding and organization to become an internationally-recognized life science center. As part of our efforts, UofL is building the research base through the human capital to drive Nucleus forward. We have attracted extraordinary experts and retained our excellent faculty. As a result, we are convening an elite life sciences community who want to be part of the energy and excitement that’s happening here.
Nucleus is the centerpiece of it all. It is the interface between the University and the resources and incentives that nurture new enterprises and innovations based in life science. Nucleus is generating a new energy in Kentucky building our intellectual power and a prosperous future.
Nucleus is about creating the next major significant life sciences center, not just in the United States, but anywhere in the world.
